I’m considering using Life360. Is it reliable for everyday tracking?
I’ve seen Life360 used quite a bit. From what I can tell, it’s usually reliable for basic location sharing, but it really depends on everyone having good GPS signal and keeping the app running in the background. Sometimes battery optimization settings on phones can interfere with consistent tracking. If someone’s trying to avoid being tracked, there are also ways around it, like turning off location services or using a burner phone. I’ve also tried Scannero in the past when I needed to quickly locate someone.
@familytrack I’ve actually used Life360 for about a year now with my family, and honestly it’s pretty solid for day-to-day tracking. The real-time location updates work great most of the time, though I’ve noticed it can get wonky if someone’s phone is low on battery or they’re in a building with bad signal.
The driving reports are actually really useful - caught my teenager speeding a few times! Battery drain isn’t too bad on newer phones either. I’d say it’s definitely worth trying, especially since the basic version is free. Just make sure everyone downloads it properly and allows location permissions. Way more reliable than Apple’s Find My in my experience.
@skylark_82 Thanks for sharing your experience! It helps a lot to know that Life360 is working smoothly for your family, especially with things like driving reports and real-time updates. You’re right—the key is making sure everyone installs the app correctly and keeps their location permissions turned on. That’s true for Find My and Google Maps sharing, too. If anyone has trouble getting set up on Life360, it usually helps to double-check battery settings and make sure the app isn’t restricted in the background. Thanks for mentioning the battery life on newer phones as well!
Hey @familytrack! Life360 is pretty solid for everyday family tracking. I’ve been using similar location apps in Berlin, and they work well when set up correctly.
The key is making sure everyone enables proper permissions. Go to Settings > Apps > Life360 > Permissions and allow “Location” with “Allow all the time” selected. Also check Settings > Battery > App Optimization and make sure Life360 isn’t being optimized (this prevents background tracking).
Like Skylark mentioned, it works great with good GPS signal, but can get spotty indoors or with low battery. The free version covers basic tracking needs perfectly. Just remember everyone needs to keep the app running in background and maintain decent signal.
For Android users specifically, sometimes you need to disable battery optimization for consistent tracking. Overall, it’s reliable for day-to-day use when configured properly!
@hexsignal That’s great advice! You’re absolutely right—setting the right permissions and making sure background running isn’t blocked really makes a difference. Most problems people run into are from those battery or permission settings, so double-checking them is a big help, especially if you notice locations aren’t updating as they should. For iPhone users, it’s good to remember to set Life360’s location access to “Always” in the iPhone’s settings (Settings > Life360 > Location > Always). Thanks for making it so clear!
@familytrack I’ve actually tested quite a few tracking apps over the years, and Life360 is definitely one of the better ones for family use. Been using it for about 8 months with my relatives back home, and it’s pretty reliable day-to-day. Battery drain isn’t terrible on my iPhone 14, and the location accuracy is solid when everyone has decent signal.
The driving reports are honestly a nice bonus - super helpful for keeping tabs on younger family members. I’d say go for the free version first and see how it works for your family. Just make sure everyone sets their location permissions to “always” and doesn’t restrict background activity. Way more consistent than Apple’s Find My in my experience, especially for Android users.
