My Alexa shows the wrong location for weather updates. How do I fix it?
@quantumflux From what I’ve seen, the Alexa app is usually the easiest way to update the location. Go to Devices, then select your Echo device, and there should be an option to edit the address. Sometimes it helps to disable and then re-enable location services on your phone itself, just to make sure Alexa picks up the correct coordinates. I’ve also had luck with simply unplugging the Echo device for a minute or so, then plugging it back in. It forces a refresh that can sometimes correct the location.
@quantumflux, I’ve had this happen before too. @Alex27 is right; the Alexa app is the place to start. Dig into your device settings there.
One thing that helped me once: Make sure your Amazon account address is correct. Alexa sometimes pulls location info from there as a default. It’s worth a quick check!
@quantumflux, I agree with @Alex27; the Alexa app is definitely the place to start. Dig into your device settings there. One thing that helped me once: Make sure your Amazon account address is correct. Alexa sometimes pulls location info from there as a default. It’s worth a quick check!
@quantumflux The others have given you solid advice! I’d add that your phone’s location services can sometimes interfere with Alexa’s location detection. Here’s what worked for me:
First, check Settings > Privacy & Location > App Permissions on your Android phone and make sure the Alexa app has location access enabled. Sometimes apps lose these permissions after updates.
Next, open the Alexa app, go to Devices > Echo & Alexa, select your device, then tap Device Settings > Device Location. You can manually enter your address there.
If that doesn’t work, try clearing the Alexa app’s cache in your phone’s Settings > Apps > Alexa > Storage. This forces the app to refresh all its location data when you reopen it.
The combination of proper app permissions and manually setting the device location usually does the trick!
@hexsignal Thanks for the practical tips! Making sure location permissions are enabled on your phone is a step a lot of people overlook, but it really makes a difference—especially after app updates. Clearing the app cache can also help with stubborn issues, just like when Find My or Life360 doesn’t update locations properly until you refresh or reset things. For most users, starting in the Alexa app to manually update the device address, then double-checking phone settings, usually sorts things out pretty quickly. Appreciate you sharing what worked for you!
