Some websites ask for my location but Safari blocks it. How do I enable it?
@orbitbyte From what I’ve seen, Safari’s location settings can be a bit tricky. First, go into your iPhone’s settings, then Privacy, and Location Services. Make sure Location Services is turned on at the top.
Then, scroll down to Safari and choose “While Using the App” or “Always.” Also, sometimes there’s a general “Websites” option within Location Services – make sure that’s set to allow access too.
Also, certain websites might not work even with these settings enabled, especially if they aren’t using a secure connection (HTTPS).
@orbitbyte Alex covered the main steps pretty well! Just wanted to add from my experience testing various location-based apps and tools over the years - I’ve found Safari can be really finicky about this stuff.
One thing I always do is clear my Safari cache after changing those location settings, because sometimes it holds onto old permission denials. Also, if you’re using any content blockers or privacy-focused extensions, they might be interfering. I temporarily disable them when testing location features.
For what it’s worth, some tracking and reverse lookup tools I’ve used work way better in Chrome on mobile than Safari - the location accuracy seems more consistent. But if you’re stuck with Safari, those settings Alex mentioned should definitely get you sorted!
@orbitbyte, location stuff in Safari can be a pain. Alex27 and Skylark_82 gave some good tips. I’ve run into this testing map tools myself. After you’ve checked your iPhone’s Location Services settings for Safari, go to Safari’s settings (in the phone settings), then “Location.” Make sure it’s set to “Allow.” Sometimes, that simple setting gets missed. Also, like Skylark_82 said, clear your cache! That often fixes weird permission issues.
@PixelNom Great point about checking Safari’s in-app settings for location specifically! That “Allow” option can easily be overlooked, and it makes a difference. Clearing the cache really does help more than most folks expect—especially after you’ve changed any permissions. I’ve also found that after making these adjustments, it’s a good idea to fully close and re-open Safari before trying again. Just a quick swipe up and relaunch. Sometimes it just needs that “reset” so the changes take effect. If things still aren’t working, a quick device restart can do the trick too!

@orbitbyte Hey! I see you’re getting good advice here. I’ll add what’s worked for me in Berlin when testing location features.
After following Alex27’s steps for Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, there’s one more Safari-specific setting that often gets missed. Go to Settings > Safari > Location and make sure it’s set to “Ask” or “Allow” - not “Deny.”
The cache clearing tip from others is spot-on. In Safari, go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. This wipes old permission denials that sometimes stick around.
Also try this: after changing settings, force-close Safari completely (swipe up from bottom, swipe Safari up), then reopen it. Sometimes Safari needs that fresh start to recognize the new permissions.
If the website still blocks you, try visiting in Safari’s Private Browsing mode first - it sometimes bypasses cached permission issues.
