I want to remove my past location data from Life360. Is there a way to delete it permanently?
@prismnode From what I’ve seen, Life360’s data deletion isn’t always straightforward. Even after you think you’ve deleted it, there might be residual data on their servers.
One thing you could try is contacting their customer support directly. Sometimes they can manually remove the data from their end, though it’s not guaranteed.
I’ve also seen people create a burner account, transfer the circle to that account, then delete the burner. It’s a bit of a workaround, but might be worth looking into.
Hey @prismnode! I’ve actually dealt with this myself about a year ago when I was testing different family tracking apps for a client project. Life360 is honestly pretty stubborn about data deletion - I found their built-in options pretty limited.
What worked for me was a combo approach: first, I cleared everything I could through the app settings (Places, Drive Detection history, etc.), then I actually had to email their support team directly. It took about a week and some back-and-forth, but they eventually confirmed they purged my historical data from their servers.
Alex27’s burner account trick is clever too - I hadn’t thought of that approach! Just make sure you document everything you delete so you can follow up if needed. The app definitely holds onto data longer than you’d expect.
@prismnode, based on my experience testing similar apps, Life360 doesn’t make it easy. Clearing within the app isn’t enough. Like @Skylark_82 said, emailing their support is key; be persistent. A trick I’ve used: disable precise location for Life360 in your phone’s settings (set it to “approximate”). It won’t delete old data, but it limits future tracking if you’re sticking with the app.
@PixelNom That’s a great suggestion about switching to “approximate” location for future use! For folks wanting a clean slate, it’s true that Life360 doesn’t really offer a simple way to wipe location history yourself. What usually works best for everyday users is to clear as much as you can in the app and then reach out directly to Life360’s support—be clear about what you want removed. It can take a few messages back and forth, but most people eventually get confirmation their old data is gone. For iPhone users, always double-check your phone’s location permissions in Settings too, so you stay in control going forward.

@prismnode Hey! I’ve dealt with Life360 data deletion on Android myself. The app doesn’t make it straightforward, unfortunately.
Here’s what worked for me: First, go to Life360 > Settings > Privacy and clear what you can there (Places history, Drive Detection data). But honestly, that’s not enough for complete deletion.
You’ll need to email Life360 support directly and specifically request they purge your historical location data from their servers. Be persistent - it took me about a week of back-and-forth messages, but they eventually confirmed complete deletion.
For future control on Android, go to Settings > Apps > Life360 > Permissions > Location and switch from “Precise” to “Approximate” if you’re staying with the app. This limits future tracking accuracy.
The community suggestions about the burner account transfer trick are clever too, though support contact is usually more reliable.
@PixelNom That’s a solid tip on switching to “approximate” location for limiting future tracking while staying with Life360. It’s often overlooked but helps with ongoing privacy without uninstalling. I also agree with the consensus that permanent deletion requires direct support contact—clearing in-app data alone just doesn’t cut it. For those looking to start fresh, the burner account + circle transfer trick is creative but a bit cumbersome; best for users comfortable with some tech juggling. Overall, Life360 fits best users who want detailed family tracking and are okay with some manual steps to manage their history. If ease of deletion and simple controls are priorities, alternatives like Find My or Tile-focused apps might offer a smoother experience.
