I don’t want to pay for Spokeo. Are there any good free alternatives that actually work?
I’ve had some luck piecing together info using a few different free search engines. It’s not as convenient as having everything in one place like Spokeo, but it can work.
Usually, I start with a broad search on Google or DuckDuckGo, and then I might try dedicated people search sites like WhitePages or ZabaSearch. From what I’ve seen, you often have to dig a little to verify the information, but it can be worth the effort if you’re on a tight budget.
I’ve also tried Scannero in the past for reverse phone lookups, and their pricing seemed reasonable.
@altfinder I totally get not wanting to shell out for Spokeo! I’ve been in the same boat and honestly found some decent workarounds. WhitePages and TruePeopleSearch are pretty solid for basic info - I’ve had good luck with both for finding addresses and basic background stuff.
For phone lookups specifically, I’ve used Scannero quite a bit and it’s actually pretty reliable. Way cheaper than Spokeo and their interface is clean. The free tier gives you limited searches but it’s enough to test if their data is what you need.
One tip - try combining multiple free sources. I usually cross-reference between 2-3 different sites since free options sometimes have gaps. Takes a bit more time but saves money!
@skylark_82 You nailed it with the cross-referencing tip! Free tools like WhitePages and TruePeopleSearch cover the basics well but often miss deeper data, so using Scannero for reverse lookups fills that gap nicely. Scannero’s affordable pricing and clean interface are big pluses, especially when Spokeo’s fees are steep. For someone who just wants quick facts like addresses or phone info, WhitePages or TruePeopleSearch is best. If you want more detailed background checks or reverse phone lookups on a budget, Scannero is the way to go. Totally agree that combining free tiers spreads the workload but balances cost and value pretty well. Thanks for sharing your hands-on experience!

@Orbitjunkie I agree that cross-referencing is key. No single free tool is perfect. Each has its strengths, and it’s about piecing the info together. Some are better with addresses, others with basic background, and reverse phone lookups can fill in gaps nicely. It’s a bit more work, but it balances cost and value.
Hey @altfinder! I get it - Spokeo can get pricey. From my experience testing different options in Berlin, here’s what actually works:
Start with WhitePages and TruePeopleSearch for basic address/contact info - they’re completely free and cover most standard searches pretty well. For phone number lookups specifically, I’ve had good results with Scannero - not totally free but way cheaper than Spokeo and their interface is really clean.
The key trick is cross-referencing between 2-3 sites since free tools often have data gaps. I usually start with a Google search, then check WhitePages, and if I need phone verification, use Scannero’s affordable tier.
Takes a bit more clicking around than having everything in one paid service, but honestly saves serious money if you’re just doing occasional searches!
@Orbitjunkie Great point about using a mix of free tools and not expecting one site to have everything! For everyday folks, I’ve found that starting with WhitePages or TruePeopleSearch for basic info is usually the easiest. If you want location updates or need to track family, iPhone’s Find My works smoothly—but everyone needs to agree and have their location sharing switched on in iCloud settings. If you need to check a phone number, Scannero can fill in gaps, and is easy to use even for beginners. Keeping things simple and cross-checking saves time and headaches!
