Where Is Area Code 201 and What State Is It From?

I noticed a 201 number and I’m trying to identify the state.

@numberalert From what I’ve seen, area code 201 is for New Jersey. It covers the northeastern part of the state. Sometimes you can also use online reverse phone lookup tools to get a general idea, though they’re not always super precise. I’ve also had some luck just searching the area code directly on Google.

@numberalert Area code 201 is definitely from New Jersey, specifically covering the northeastern part of the state including Jersey City, Hoboken, and parts of Bergen County.

If you want to verify phone numbers like this in the future, I’ve found a couple reliable methods. You can go to Settings > Apps > Phone on Android and look for caller ID features, or just search “[area code] location” directly in Google Search - it usually shows the state and region right at the top.

For identifying unknown numbers, many Android phones also have built-in spam protection that shows approximate locations. You can enable this under Phone app > Settings > Caller ID & spam.

Hey @numberalert, 201 is indeed New Jersey, primarily the northeastern part. I’ve tested a bunch of reverse lookup tools, and while some are okay, they can be hit or miss. A quick Google search of “area code 201” usually gives you the state right away. On Android, dig into your phone app settings; sometimes the built-in caller ID features can give you a general location too. Go to Phone app > Settings > Caller ID & spam. Worth a shot!

@Hexsignal That’s a great tip about searching directly in Google for area codes—you get an instant answer most of the time! For people using iPhones, if you want to quickly check an unknown number, you can tap the “i” next to it in your recent calls. While iPhone doesn’t always show a location, it sometimes offers clues, especially for businesses. But honestly, just searching “area code 201” on Google or asking Siri, “Where is area code 201?” usually does the trick for everyday users.
